Share of Audio 2019

At the 2019 Radio Alive conference GfK and CRA released the findings of the latest Share of Audio study, the fourth annual research piece into the Australian audio landscape. The results continue to highlight live radio as the irrefutable leading audio platform, currently holding a dominant 61.3% share of listening.

The comprehensive study was conducted over a four week period using a nationally representative sample of nearly two thousand respondents aged 10+ across all metro and major regional markets. Respondents included both listeners and non-listeners and were required to complete a customised 7 day audio diary detailing their listening activities.
 

 

2019 key findings:

  • Live Australian radio remains the most popular choice of audio, accounting for a dominant 61.3% share of all audio listening.

  • Australians spend 3 hours and 28 minutes listening to audio every day, 7 minutes more than last year.

  • Consumers listen to live Australian radio for an average of 2 hours and 7 minutes every day, an increase of 2 minutes from last year.

  • ​For the first time, Australians are spending more time listening to podcasts than their own music collections.

  • Live Australian radio reaches 67.5% of all Australians 10+, up from 66.4% last year.

  • ​At 74.2%, Live Australian radio holds nearly 10x the share of commercial audio listening as free and subscription audio streaming services.
